  3. Take 2 tablespoon milk
  4. Get 2 tablespoon melted ghee
  5. Get For making Mohanthaal 250 gram ghee 1/2 cup milk powder pistachios and almonds for garnishing Few strands of saffron Poppyseeds (Khus khus) for garnishing
  6. Take 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  7. Get 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  8. Get Orange food colour
  9. Get For making sugar syrup Juice of 1/2 lemon 350 gram sugar 250 ml water

Leave covered for half an hour. In a pan, mix sugar and water and add saffron and leave aside. Mohanthaal is a famous sweet from the Guajarati cuisine. It is a tactfully made sweet made in most houses during Diwali.

Steps to make Mohanthaal:
  1. Method for dhrabo. - In a bowl add the gram flour, melted ghee and milk. Rub the mixture in between your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs. Let it rest for half an hour. - Sieve the dhrabo thru medium hole sieve or you can pulse it in food processor until it resembles bread crumbs.
  2. Method for sugar syrup - In a pan add sugar and water and let it simmer to 1 thread consistency. Add yellow food colour to the syrup at this stage. Add lemon juice so it does not crystallised.
  3. In a wide wok add ghee and the dhrabo mix and cook on medium heat until it is golden brown and ghee separates from the flour.
  4. Remove from heat and add milk powder, cardamom powder, nutmeg powder and mix well. Leave it aside until the mixture is warm. - Pour the hot sugar syrup in the mixture and mix until all syrup is fully incorporated.
  5. In a greased plate transfer the Mohanthaal and garnish with pistachios, almonds, saffron and poppyseeds. Let it set for few hours and cut into pieces.
