I wanted to adapt my usual recipe to make it more like Polish pork goulash or gulasz. The paprika we've bought in Poznań has been darker and spicier (not smoked), so that took care of part of it. I also (as the name implies) used pork, the most typical Polish protein, rather than beef. In a medium saucepan heat oil/grease, add beef, bay leaves, peppercorns and allspice.

Instructions to make Goulash Polaco:
  1. Cook onions until tender and potatoes in another pot
  2. Add flour to beef and cook with onions
  3. Once beef is cooked, add water, Maggi, salt, pepper and herbs
  4. Add peppers, mushrooms and cook until beef is tender
  5. Add potatoes and serve

I also (as the name implies) used pork, the most typical Polish protein, rather than beef. In a medium saucepan heat oil/grease, add beef, bay leaves, peppercorns and allspice. Brown on medium heat until edges start to brown, add chopped onion and sauté another few minutes, until onion cooks and browns a bit around the edges. Goulash is a stew of beef and vegetables, seasoned with paprika and other spices. Serve with macaroni noodles and you've got a meal the whole family will love.
